Before 1950, the cultivation of the vine was very important: 20,000 Hectare, for less than 3,000 Hectare now. Its climate and privileged hillsides favored this culture from the beginning of our era. Columella in his treatise on agronomy, “De re agricola”, quotes that the Romans found the vine when they arrived in Allobrogie in 120 years BC. JC. Pliny and Celce also speak of the “Vitis Allobrogica”. Around the 5th century, ecclesiastical domains appear (bishoprics, abbeys, priories). They belong to the nobility and the bourgeoisie around the 14th century to pass to the peasantry in the 19th century. The slopes of Cevins and Saint Pierre de Soucy have this classic route of the vine in Savoie.
