Product Description
Ao Yun 2017 (translated "flying above the clouds") is the crown jewel of Chinese winemaking—a pioneering Grand Cru estate in Yunnan province established by LVMH's Moët Hennessy. Situated at 2,000-2,600 meters altitude on the Mekong River's banks near the sacred Meili Snow Mountain, 314 vineyard blocks across four Tibetan villages produce grapes of unparalleled intensity and purity.
Epic Vintage from High-Altitude Terroir
The 2017 vintage blends 77% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Cabernet Franc, 4% Syrah, 3% Petit Verdot, and 2% Merlot (used for the first time)—harvested over two months from September to November to capture optimal ripeness at each altitude. Estate Manager Maxence Dulou crafted a wine of concentration and finesse, aged in 36% new French oak.
97 Points from James Suckling
Critics awarded exceptional scores: James Suckling 97 points, Jane Anson MW 94 points, and Wine Advocate 94 points. The wine reveals inky purple color with aromas of blackberry, blueberry, dried chili, sweet tobacco, smoked black tea, and pine. On the palate, it delivers remarkable purity with crystalline redcurrant, blackcurrant, and oyster shell minerality, framed by creamy, refined tannins and mouthwatering acidity.
