Greywacke

The Winery that bears the Soil Namesake

Greywacke is a renowned winery based in Marlborough, New Zealand, founded by Kevin Judd, the founding winemaker at Cloudy Bay, a pivotal role during which he directed the company’s first 25 vintages. In 2009, he established Greywacke, his own family wine company, named after New Zealand’s prolific bedrockm a type of sandstone that is characterized by its dark color, hard texture, and poorly sorted, angular grains. The Sauvignon Blanc is their flagship wine, known for its vibrant acidity, tropical fruits. The Wild Sauvignon Blanc is a richer, more textured style with barrel fermentation. Kevin Judd emphasizes organic and sustainable practices, and the use of wild fermentation for complexity.
