Product Description
The Dr. Loosen Unterst Pichle Ürziger Würzgarten Riesling Reserve Alte Reben GG 2017 is a rare Mosel Grosses Gewächs from ungrafted old vines in the “Unterst Pichter” parcel of the red-volcanic Ürziger Würzgarten, crafted to showcase profound terroir detail through extended lees and bottle aging.
Tasting
Deep and noble aromas of mirabelle, pear peel, and candied citrus lead into notes of pineapple, dried strawberry, allspice, and gentle toast. The palate is full-bodied yet poised, lush and round with nutty undertones, driven by frisky, saline acidity to a long, elegant, slightly bitter-saline finish; compact, concentrated, and serenely balanced for decades of development.
Vinification
Naturally fermented in traditional Mosel fuder from rigorously selected, ungrafted “Alte Reben,” then matured 24 months on full lees without bâtonnage and a further 24 months in bottle before release, yielding remarkable texture and precision at 12–12.5% alcohol.
Vineyard & Background
Ürziger Würzgarten’s amphitheatre of iron-rich red volcanic “Rotliegendes” sets it apart from slate-dominant Mosel sites, producing exotically spiced, tropical-leaning expressions of Riesling under the long-standing stewardship of Dr. Loosen’s historic estate.
