Product Description
The Dr. Loosen Wehlener Sonnenuhr Im Laychen Reserve Riesling Alte Reben GG 2018 is a rare Mosel Grosses Gewächs from old, ungrafted vines on the blue-slate heart of the Wehlener Sonnenuhr, crafted for depth through extended lees and bottle aging. This distinguished white wine captures the precision and elegance that define Dr. Loosen’s single-vineyard philosophy in the Mosel.
Tasting
A fantastically deep nose of white peach and white flowers unfolds to citrus, pineapple, apricot, and subtle herbal-lime notes. The palate is extremely structured and concentrated yet finely poised, with crystalline acidity, slate-driven salinity, and a long, refined finish that promises excellent aging potential.
Vinification
Selective hand-harvest of pristine fruit; spontaneous fermentation in traditional 3,000-liter Mosel fuder; matured 36 months on full lees without bâtonnage, followed by 24 months of bottle aging; dry style at about 12.5% ABV for textural intensity and precision.
Vineyard & Background
Wehlener Sonnenuhr’s predominantly blue slate yields a precise, delicate, mineral-inflected expression of Riesling; the Im Laychen parcel is prized for purity and finesse, exemplifying Dr. Loosen’s terroir-first approach to GG and GG Reserve wines.
