Alheit Vineyards 'Fire by Night' 2023 is a landmark single-origin Swartland Chenin Blanc from the Alheits' own Nuwedam farm on the granite slopes of the Paardeberg — 20 hectares of dry-farmed bush vines planted 1972–1985 at 300–350m above sea level, rooted deep in pure decomposed granite.
Hand-sorted, whole-bunch pressed with zero additions, wild fermented in cement eggs, foudres and old barrels over one month, then lees-aged 12 months followed by five months in tank — unfined and unfiltered, just 5,996 bottles and 180 magnums produced. The nose is captivating — flinty reduction, mountain herbs, green citrus, thatch and spring water purity, finely etched in granite. The palate is high-energy and precise — coiled, racy acidity, lemongrass and crushed stone, fanning out across a bracing, long, saline finish. Cellar 2025–2042.
