Kanonkop Pinotage 2023, from 63-year-old unirrigated bush vines in Stellenbosch, showcases the grape that put South Africa on the fine wine map. Fermented in open-top concrete tanks with hand punch-downs every two hours, the wine matures 18 months in 80% new and 20% second-fill French Nevers oak.
Bold plums, blackberries, mulberries and vanilla lead the nose, layered with smoke and roasted nut. The palate delivers plums, cherries, black figs and dark chocolate against spicy oak, with plush, creamy tannins and balanced acidity building to a long, age-worthy finish.
