Product Description
Max Richter Mulheimer Sonnenlay Kabinett Feinherb 2022 comes from the Richter family's largest single vineyard—the legendary Sonnenlay (meaning "sunshine slate"), which achieved fame in the 1920s and '30s as the Riesling served aboard transatlantic Zeppelin flights, including the Hindenburg. For over 300 years, Max Richter has cultivated this west-southwest facing site on extremely steep slopes formed in an ancient riverbed during the last ice age.
Distinctive Terroir Expression
The vineyard's loose slate soil, enriched with pebbles, loam, and sand deposits from the ancient river, creates wines that combine typical slate stone minerality with animated, elegant fruitiness. This unique terroir produces the estate's most versatile style—the feinherb (off-dry) Sonnenlay Kabinett.
Perfectly Balanced
The winery describes a "fresh, delicate aroma of apple blossoms" with hints of citrus and slate. This animating, juicy Riesling delivers crystal-clear mineral texture with white peach, pear, cardamom, herbs, and spice notes. Vivino users praise its tropical fruit character—pineapple, nectarine, and melon—with excellent balance between aromatic sweetness and racy fruit acid.
