Product Description
Schloss Johannisberg Riesling Grünlack Spätlese 2021 comes from the world's first estate exclusively dedicated to Riesling since 1720, where the Spätlese style was accidentally discovered in 1775. With over 1,200 years of winemaking heritage dating back to Charlemagne's orders, Schloss Johannisberg remains a legendary monument to German viticulture.
Grand Cru Terroir Expression
The estate's single 50-hectare vineyard climbs 45-degree south-facing slopes from 114 to 181 meters elevation, where vines root in quartz stone interspersed with red clay and loess. The 50th parallel runs directly through these protected slopes, creating optimal conditions for Spätlese grapes harvested at least seven days later than normal.
Multi-Layered Complexity
Falstaff awarded 94 points, noting "supermineralisch" character with peppery intensity. The wine reveals tea leaves, white peach, fresh pineapple, green apple, passion fruit, and ripe apricots with nettle and sorrel herbal notes. Vivino users praise its "stunning balance" between sweetness and acidity with "clean mouthfeel". The rich, creamy texture fills the mouth with honeyed sweetness before refreshing citrus acidity creates an elegant, lingering finish. Grünlack has been Schloss Johannisberg's flagship since 1775—a testament to timeless Riesling craftsmanship.
