Product Description

96 pts / #7 Top 100 SA (James Suckling 2024) · 98 pts (Tim Atkin MW) · 93 pts (Vinous · Neal Martin)

Alheit Vineyards 'Huilkrans' 2023 is a single-origin Skurfberg Chenin Blanc of grand cru stature — sourced from ancient dry-farmed bush vines planted 1974–1989 on Oudam farm at 450m above sea level, yielding a whisper-quiet 1.5 tons per hectare from deep red sand over red clay.

Whole-bunch pressed with zero additions, wild fermented in old foudres and barrels, lees-aged 12 months then six further months in tank — unfined, just 4,875 bottles and 150 magnums. Tim Atkin describes it as "green fig, lime and greengage with a ferrous undertone and a stony finish". The palate rushes in full and fresh with citrus blossom, salty spice and oyster shell — powerful yet weightless, finishing with a flourish of pure, confident South Africa Chenin Blanc energy.
