Product Description
Clos de la Tech Domaine du Docteur Rodgers 2012 is an exceptional Pinot Noir from California's Santa Cruz Mountains, crafted by semiconductor pioneer T.J. Rodgers. Sourced from a meticulously tended one-acre vineyard in Woodside planted to Dijon clones 113, 115, and 777, this wine represents the estate's original planting with ultra-low yields and close-spacing that mirror Burgundian tradition.
Tasting Notes
The wine opens with luscious notes of bright cherry, blackberry, spice, mint, and clove, complemented by subtle hints of cassis, bay leaf, and cigar box. Mid-weighted and satiny in texture, it delivers complex dark red and purple berry flavors with undertones of sous bois and earthy mushroom. The palate is seamless, elegant, and beautifully balanced, with velvety tannins and a long, satisfying finish.
Winemaking
Extended cold soak, whole cluster fermentation with native yeast, and foot crushing precede gravity-driven transfers through the estate's mountain caves. The wine ages 16 months in French oak barrels (67% new), then 3-4 years in bottle before release.
