Product Description
Cloudy Bay Te Koko Sauvignon Blanc 2023 is Marlborough's most sophisticated expression of the varietal, earning cult status worldwide for its unique, textured profile. Named after the original Māori name for Cloudy Bay—Te Koko o Kupe, meaning "The Oyster Dredge of Kupe"—this wine comes from old vines on the Wairau Valley floor, farmed with meticulous care and hand-harvested in select vintages.
Extended Oak Aging & Wild Fermentation
Whole-bunch pressed into mostly old French oak barrels, the wine ferments spontaneously with indigenous yeasts over four to five months, followed by 15 months resting on fine lees. This artisan approach creates a Sauvignon Blanc that is textured, round, and layered—far removed from typical Marlborough expressions.
Complex Aromas & Concentrated Palate
Initially reticent, the nose unfolds with notes of just-ripe mango, lemon verbena, sun-warmed lemon, and gentle smoky minerality. The palate is concentrated and mouthwateringly complex, revealing meadow hay, preserved citrus, white nectarine, salted almond, and a long, focused finish. Subtle oak influence tempers acidity while maintaining varietal purity and elegance.
