From New Zealand's most celebrated Chardonnay producer, the Kumeu River Mate's Chardonnay 2023 showcases the exceptional quality of Hawke's Bay's Mendoza clone fruit. Named after family patriarch Maté Brajkovich, this single-vineyard wine from the 2.49-ha estate plot (planted 1990) demonstrates why Kumeu River is compared to Burgundy's finest producers like Coche-Dury.
Tasting Profile
A luminous straw hue introduces restrained aromas of white peach and citrus, hinting at the dense palate to come. The wine unfolds with flavors of preserved lemon, toasted almond, and wet stone, balanced by vibrant acidity and a savory, textured finish. While still youthful (Jancis Robinson: 17.5/20), its concentration promises excellent aging potential.
