The La Castellada Bianco della Castellada Collio 2015 is a distinctive field blend from Oslavia in Friuli, Italy, uniting Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay, and Sauvignon Blanc to craft a textural, age-worthy white wine that epitomizes La Castellada’s minimal-intervention philosophy. This flagship blend channels Collio’s famed ponca marl-sandstone soils into a layered, gastronomic expression of Friuli white wine.
Tasting
Expect golden-amber hues with aromas of broom, tropical fruit, vanilla, and aromatic herbs like rosemary and thyme. The palate is full-bodied yet balanced, delivering Golden Delicious apple, fig, green melon, and spice tones of myrrh, anise, and allspice, carried by fresh acidity to a long, persistent finish.
Vinification
Pinot Grigio is pressed and ferments spontaneously in barrique; Chardonnay and Sauvignon undergo about four days of skin contact in Slavonian oak before finishing fermentation in wood. The wine ages roughly 11–12 months in large Slavonian barrels, then further in stainless steel, and is bottled unfiltered for maximum terroir transparency.
