Marqués de Riscal Reserva 2021 is a Tempranillo blend with Graciano and Mazuelo, aged around 20 months in American oak. James Suckling noting "a combination of licorice, blackberries and cherries on the nose, a floral element emerging as the wine evolves," with a "medium- to full-bodied palate...incisive with polished, focused tannins and a clean, chiseled finish."
Tempranillo forms the backbone here, with fine tannins and fresh acidity built for classic Riojan food pairing. Wine Enthusiast adds notes of "purple plum, lavender and dried thyme," with "black currant, Simka plum, olive tapenade, baking spice and cocoa powder" on the palate.
