Les Quatre Piliers: A Loire Valley Rising Star

The Beginning of Artisanal Winemaking

Domaine Les Quatre Piliers is a young, dynamic winery located in Noyers-sur-Cher, in the heart of the Loire Valley. Founded by Valentin Desloges, this 10-hectare estate has quickly gained recognition for its meticulous, hands-on approach to viticulture and its exceptional expressions of Loire Valley grapes like Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc, and Cabernet Franc. For wine lovers seeking authentic, terroir-driven wines, Les Quatre Piliers represents one of the most exciting discoveries in the Touraine appellation.

The Best of Many Worlds

The story of Domaine Les Quatre Piliers begins with Valentin Desloges, a young winemaker with an impressive pedigree . As the son of a Touraine grape grower, winemaking is in his blood. However, Valentin took his passion further, traveling across France to learn from some of the country's most esteemed domaines .

His training included working with:

  • Vincent Sipp in Alsace
  • Château Mangot in Saint-Émilion
  • Thierry and Paul Pillot in Chassagne-Montrachet
  • Raphaël Coche at the iconic Coche-Dury in Meursault

This Burgundian influence is evident in his winemaking philosophy, which prioritizes precision, barrel aging, and a deep respect for the vineyard.

The Four Pillars

The domaine's name is inspired by its four main vineyard sites:

  1. Les Puits aux Chiens – The highest point in Noyers-sur-Cher, featuring old vines (around 30 years) planted in sand and clay over limestone
  2. Bernardière
  3. Bel Air – Located on the left bank of the Cher River
  4. Quatre Piliers – The namesake parcel

Tasting Notes: Les Quatre Piliers Bel-Air Sauvignon Blanc 2022

Les Quatre Piliers Bel-Air Sauvignon Blanc 2022 earned an outstanding 95+ points from Wine Advocate, who praised it as "lovely, wafting from the glass with aromas of menthol, white fruits, confit citrus, honey". This flagship cuvée from rising star Valentin Desloges (trained under Coche-Dury) comes from 60-year-old Sauvignon Blanc vines on the left bank of the Cher River, where red clay soils beneath flinty sands create exceptional intensity and textural breadth.

Tasting Notes: Les Quatre Piliers Chapitre I Sauvignon Blanc 2023

Les Quatre Piliers Chapitre I Sauvignon Blanc 2023 is Valentin Desloges' elegant entry-level cuvée, now in its fourth vintage and already winning acclaim from top sommeliers and Michelin-starred restaurants across France. This Loire Sauvignon is crafted from 15-35 year-old organic vines planted across three hectares of limestone, sand, and flint soils on the west-facing slopes near the Cher River.

A Loire Wine that was mistaken as Burgundian White

I know it is hyperbole, but at first palate, the Bel-Air does taste like a quite fine Burgundian white wine. Domaine Les Quatre Piliers is more than just a winery—it's the realization of one young winemaker's vision to create authentic, terroir-expressive wines in the Loire Valley. With Valentin Desloges at the helm, this estate is poised to become a benchmark for artisanal Touraine wines.
