Borgogno
A Traditional yet Unyielding Barolo
Borgogno Winery is one of the most historic and respected wine producers in Barolo, Piedmont, Italy. Founded in 1761 by Bartolomeo Borgogno, it is one of the oldest wineries in the region, with a long tradition of crafting exceptional Barolo wines. Borgogno owns vineyards in some of the most prestigious Barolo Crus, including Cannubi, Liste, Fossati, and San Pietro delle Viole. Winemaking Style: Borgogno is known for its traditional approach to winemaking, favoring long maceration and extended aging in large Slavonian oak casks. This results in complex, structured, and age-worthy Barolo wines.
An interesting story about the "No Name" label - In 2005, Borgogno submitted two Barolo samples to the tasting commission, and one was rejected, not for any fault, but because it was deemed stylistically different from Barolo. This led to the creation of No Name as a way to release the rejected wine.
