Domaine Jean Chartron

A Historic Estate in Puligny-Montrachet since 1859

Domaine Jean Chartron was founded in 1859 by cooper Jean-Edouard Dupard in Puligny, Burgundy . The estate holds a unique place in history: in 1873, as mayor of Puligny, Dupard successfully petitioned to add "Montrachet"—the region's most prestigious vineyard—to the village's name, creating Puligny-Montrachet .

The domaine has passed through five generations, with the Chartron name arriving through marriage when Eugénie Dupard wed Jean-Edmond Chartron . Today, fifth-generation siblings Jean-Michel and Anne-Laure Chartron manage the estate .

The domaine farms approximately 14 hectares, with 90% planted to Chardonnay . It possesses three exceptional monopoles (exclusively held vineyards) retained since 1917: two Puligny-Montrachet Premier Crus, "Clos de la Pucelle" and "Clos du Cailleret," and the grand cru Chevalier-Montrachet "Clos des Chevaliers" . Vinification is traditional, with careful oak barrel aging to reveal the purity of each terroir .
