Domaine Michel Magnien & Frédéric Magnien, based in Morey-Saint-Denis, spans around 18 hectares of vineyards. Michel Magnien, representing the fourth generation of the family, has worked tirelessly to expand the estate's holdings. Before the early 1990s, only a fraction of the wines were estate-bottled, with the majority sold to négociants.
La Revue du Vin de France highlights that Frédéric Magnien was once regarded as a "modernist" winemaker, prioritizing intensity over subtlety in expressing terroir. Wines from this era were marked by deep color, occasional over-extraction, and prominent oak characteristics. However, a turning point came in 2015 when the estate adopted clay amphorae for winemaking and refocused on showcasing the purity of fruit and terroir. The magazine praises this shift, noting "significant progress and outstanding achievements" in the wines.
