Founded in the 19th century, Wwe. Dr. H. Thanisch is a legendary Mosel estate with a remarkable history of female leadership. After the untimely death of her husband in 1895, Katharina Thanisch took over the winery, renaming it with "Wwe" (Widow) as a testament to her resilience. Today, Sofia Thanisch continues this legacy as the fourth-generation woman at the helm, with her daughter Christina poised to become the fifth. A founding member of Germany’s prestigious VDP (Association of German Quality Wine Producers), the estate manages 9 hectares of prime Mosel vineyards in Zeltingen, Wehlen, Graach, and Bernkastel. These steep, south-facing slopes—with their blue slate soils, river reflections, and microclimates—produce Rieslings of unparalleled concentration and complexity.
