Shafer Vineyards
A Rich History
The property has been a site of grape growing and winemaking since 1880, surviving Prohibition and evolving into one of Napa’s most iconic estates. John Shafer, a former publishing executive, purchased the land in 1972, planting Cabernet Sauvignon on its sun-drenched hillsides. By 1978, Shafer Vineyards produced its first vintage, marking the beginning of a legacy.
Iconic Wines
Shafer Vineyards is renowned for its Hillside Select Cabernet Sauvignon, a wine that epitomizes elegance, richness, and balance. Under the leadership of Doug Shafer and winemaker Elias Fernandez, the winery has earned global acclaim. Elias, named Food & Wine’s Winemaker of the Year in 2002, has been instrumental in shaping Shafer’s signature style.
A Family Legacy
Today, Shafer Vineyards continues to thrive as a family-owned winery, honoring nearly 150 years of winemaking tradition. From its historic roots to its modern innovations, Shafer remains a symbol of Napa Valley’s excellence.
