Perched on the rugged slopes of Gibbston, often called the “Heart of Pinot Noir,” Valli is a benchmark producer in Central Otago, New Zealand. Founded by acclaimed winemaker Grant Taylor—the first non-Burgundian to win the prestigious Pinot Noir Trophy at the International Wine Challenge—Valli is dedicated to showcasing the distinct character of individual sub-regions. Rather than blending sites, they produce separate wines from Gibbston, Bannockburn, Bendigo, and Waitaki, highlighting dramatic differences in schist, loess, and clay soils. While renowned for their intense, floral, and finely structured Pinot Noirs, they also craft exceptional aromatic whites like Riesling and Pinot Gris. Valli’s philosophy champions low yields, hand-harvesting, and wild fermentation, resulting in wines that balance power with profound elegance—a pure expression of Otago’s extreme continental climate.
