Michel Niellon’s Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru Clos de la Maltroie 2023 is drawn from a 0.94-hectare clay-limestone parcel. Fermented partly in stainless steel, then matured in oak with 25% new barrels, it marries generosity with incisive freshness.
Neal Martin calls it “clean and precise,” opening on lemon rind and crushed stone. Lime, citrus and nectarine drive a taut palate, while gunflint, subtle hazelnut and saline minerality extend the finish. A poised, age-worthy Chassagne Montrachet.
