Éric Rodez 'Les Beurys' Pinot Noir Ambonnay Grand Cru 2008

Origin
Country: France
Region and Appellation: Champagne
Product Description
From the east-facing Les Beurys vineyard in Ambonnay Grand Cru, Éric Rodez crafts this profound rosé Champagne using 100% Pinot Noir from 42-year-old vines. The 2017 vintage showcases Rodez's artisanal approach - a saignée method with 2-day maceration that captures the essence of Ambonnay's chalk terroir (just 35cm topsoil over bedrock).
Tasting Profile
A luminous salmon-pink hue introduces an aromatic cascade of wild strawberries, red currants, and candied citrus, woven with subtle notes of white pepper and crushed chalk. The palate is both powerful and precise - layers of raspberry compote and blood orange glide across a mineral backbone, supported by vibrant acidity and the faintest whisper of oak (from barrel fermentation). The finish is long and saline, with a mouthwatering tension that speaks to its zero-malo philosophy.
Winemaking Distinction
- Whole-cluster maceration: 2 days skin contact for optimal color/flavor
- Barrel fermentation: Aged in small oak without malolactic to preserve freshness
- Minimal intervention: No filtering or cold stabilization
- Low dosage (2 g/L): Honors the purity of fruit
Why This Stands Out
As former winemaker at Krug, Rodez applies his blending mastery to this single-vineyard expression, showcasing Ambonnay's ability to produce rosés of both power and finesse.
