The soil of this vineyard is notable for its unique, high proportion of phyllite slate. The quality criteria for the base wines include physiological ripeness, limited sugar content in the healthy grapes, and a confident acidity. These wines are produced using the traditional Méthode Champenoise, with an extended lees aging period of at least 48 months to develop a refined "mousseux".
