Wine Review - September Edition
Oct 22, 2024
September always feels like a time of transition, and what better way to embrace change than with a delightful exploration of wine! This month, we tried four different bottles, each offering its own unique story and flavor profile.
The best was definitely the Domaine Huet Le Haut-Lieu Sec Vouvray 2019. It had a nice bright yellow color and an excellent nose of apples, pears, and quince, with some hints of honey and silex. The perfect balance between sweetness and acidity made it stand out.
Equally enchanting was the Rosé I sampled. With its beautiful blush hue and vibrant notes of strawberries and melons, it brought a sense of warmth.
As I reveled in these wines throughout September, I couldn’t help but feel an invigorating connection to nature's bounty. Each bottle tells its own tale, Cheers!
1. Domaine Huet Le Haut-Lieu Sec Vouvray 2019 $290
The first one we've tried is from Domaine Huet, established in 1928 by Gaston Huet, is a pioneer in the Vouvray appellation, renowned for producing outstanding Chenin Blanc wines. Committed to biodynamic farming since the 1990s, Huet creates wines that reflect the nuances of its diverse terroirs.
This wine presents a vibrant bouquet of zesty lemon and straw. The acidity is delightful, perfectly complementing the white fruit notes and enhancing the noticeable minerality that lingers through the long finish. There’s a delightful interplay of dryness and high acidity, with flavors of ripe red apple, creamy lees biscuit, honey, and a touch of floral essence. Excellent wine!
2. Domaine de Terrebrune Bandol Rouge 2019 $330
Domaine de Terrebrune is a gem nestled in the beautiful Bandol subregion of Provence, France, renowned for its exquisite wines. Its flagship grape, Mourvèdre, takes center stage, with a significant proportion of the estate's wines crafted from this variety, giving them a distinctive character.
What stands out is how easy to drink and delightfully smooth this wine is. The moment you take your first sip, you're enveloped in a symphony of aromas and flavors. Imagine the inviting scents of leather and earthiness mingling with rich notes of blackberry jam, black cherry, and plum—each whiff transporting you to sun-soaked vineyards.
This rosé from Vaucluse de Provence is a lovely dry wine with soft flavors of red fruits like raspberry and honeydew melon, plus a hint of citrus. It has a nice minerality and subtle notes of smoke. There are aromas of yogurt, and a touch of pepper and rhubarb. It feels well-balanced and elegant in the mouth, with a medium body and pleasant acidity. The finish is long and harmonious. Definitely a wine worth seeking out again!
4. Domaine de Montille Bourgogne Aligote 2020 $290
The palate is remarkable, expressing green apple, lemon, and herbal notes, with subtle smoky undertones gently lingering without overpowering the wine's primary aromas. This wine is perfect for a refreshing summer white, paired with white fish and pasta.
