New Arrivals in store!
Oct 03, 2024
We’re excited to announce the arrival of our latest selections in store! Featuring three outstanding wineries: New Zealand's Blank Canvas, France's Vincent Bliard, and South Africa's Stellenrust.
Blank Canvas
Blank Canvas is all about creating unique, small-batch boutique wines made from grapes picked from special single vineyards all over New Zealand.
Recently, Blank Canvas was named one of the Top 20 New Zealand Wineries for 2024 by the prominent Australasian wine magazine, The Real Review. They snagged the 18th spot overall, joining the ranks of well-known names like Felton Road (#1), Ata Rangi (#4), Craggy Range (#5), and Pyramid Valley (#11). This accolade highlights their rising status in the wine world.
My top pick would be Una Volta Pinot Noir 2020 $360. The wine is aromatic, intricate, and balanced with strength; it evokes the essence of its origin with notes of cherry and raspberry, complemented by a refined herbal quality and hints of oak and mineral earth. It greets the palate with plush, ripe textures, revealing flavours of cherries, blossoms, dried herbs, and rich soil. The oak contributes depth and texture, offering a gentle vanilla sweetness alongside robust silk tannins and a medium-plus acidity. It is delightful, potent, and captivating.
Vincent Bliard
Vincent Bliard, boasting an impressive 4.1 rating on Vivino! This exceptional Champagne captures the essence of Hautvillers, known for its unique terroir and sustainable viticulture practices.
One of my favourites has to be Les Fondamentaux. It’s got a blend of 40% Pinot Meunier, 30% Chardonnay, and 30% Pinot Noir, with an 8g dosage. It’s rich and creamy with super fine bubbles. You’ll taste lime curd, baked apple, and poached pear, along with some crème anglaise. The buttery pastry and cinnamon cream really stand out too. It’s chalky and super satisfying, plus it’s a great deal ($460) for what you get!
Stellenrust
Finally Stellenrust, a hidden gem. They cultivates nearly 400 hectares of vineyards in the picturesque town of Stellenbosch. The vineyards thrive in diverse soils, ranging from the decomposed granite of the Helderberg’s Golden Triangle to the sandy clay of the maritime Bottelary Hills. They also involved in one of the largest and most successful viticulture black empowerment projects in South Africa, which provides land ownership to 72 of its employees.
My go-to choice is the Stellenrust Barrel Fermented Chenin Blanc ($260). It's truly exceptional for casual sipping, featuring vibrant notes of juicy nectarine, apple, and peach, with a refreshing lemon peel finish.
