Champagne Ulysse Collin was founded in 2003 by Olivier Collin in the village of Congy in the Sézannais, south of the Côte des Blancs.

While the estate was created less than 20 years ago, the Collins have been winegrowers in Congy for generations and the story starts in 1812 with Jean-Baptiste Collin who purchased a parcel of vines in the village. In the early 20th century, the Collins were already bottling their own wines, and Olivier’s great-grandfather, George Collin, even won a prestigious prize in the Concours Général Agricole de Paris in 1935. Following the Second World War, René Collin, Olivier’s grandfather, grew the estate holdings to 18 hectares of vines. But in 1987, Olivier’s father decided to lease the family’s vineyards to Pommery. Olivier Collin gives credit to Anselme Selosse for inspiring him to become a vigneron. He began law school in 1995 with the secret intention of using his acquired knowledge to reclaim his family’s vineyards. In 2001, Olivier did a 6-month course in viticulture followed by a 6-week apprenticeship with Anselme Selosse. Olivier was finally able to negotiate the release of some 4.5 out of the 8.7 hectares of his family’s holdings in time for the 2003 vintage. In 2005, Olivier got back an additional 4.2 hectares of vines. Today Olivier Collin is Champagne’s largest producer of single-vineyard wines and one of the most talented winemakers of the region.
