A blend of Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petite Sirah, Syrah, Merlot and Charbono, The Prisoner ferments each variety separately before aging in French and American oak, 30% new, then blends at bottling. That patient, varietal-by-varietal winemaking is what gives this Napa Valley icon its signature depth and layered complexity.
Wine Review Online calls it "very fruity, perhaps even fruit-forward, but with beautiful flavors of cherry and blackberry, nice smoothness and dusty tannins in the finish." Dark chocolate, clove and roasted fig round out the nose.
