From the dramatic Andes Mountains to the cool Pacific coastline, Chile’s diverse landscapes produce wines of remarkable purity, ranging from bold reds to crisp whites, of exceptional and value - old world elegance with new world fruitiness.
Chile is pioneer in vineyard management and wine-making in many ways. Protected by mountains and ocean, Chile has low disease pressure (Phylloxera-free vineyards with old, ungrafted vines), almost a natural paradise. Its diverse terroir, from desert to coastal coolness to Andean heights, enables Chile to grow everything from Carménère to Sauvignon Blanc. Over 75% of Chilean wine exports are sustainably certified.
Just south of Santiago, Maipo Valley is Chile’s most historic and prestigious wine region, often called the “Bordeaux of South America.” It is the birthplace of Chilean wine with vineyards dating back to the 16th century. Thanks to the Andes influence, i.e. Hot days and cold nights, the grapes are ripe with fresh acidity. The climate is Mediterranean with hot summers and mild winters. Soil are a mixture of alluvial (gravel, sand) near rivers; clay/loam in foothills. High elevation 500–760m (1,600–2,500 ft) in the Andean foothills, and low rainfall (irrigation from Andes snowmelt) also benefit the growing environment of grapes.
Celebrated for its cool coastal Mediterranean climate (similar to Sonoma Coast), Casablanca Valley is a premium region for crisp whites and elegant Pinot Noirs. Morning fog and cool breezes slow ripening, and preserve acidity. The sandy, clay and granite soil provides excellent drainage. Sauvignon Blanc produced here are zesty, high-acid and mineral. Chardonnay ranges from lean, citrus to rich, oaky.
Sitting at the heart of Central Valley, Colchagua Valley is the place known for Carménère—Chile’s signature grape. Given its sun-drenched slopes, old vines, and world-class wineries, Colchagua is a must-visit for lovers of rich, expressive wines. The Andean foothills plus warm Mediterranean climate make intense, structured wines.
Named after Mount Aconcagua (the highest peak in the Americas), this valley is tucked between the Pacific Ocean and the towering Andes. The vineyards can climb up to 2.500m and enjoy the dramatic diurnal shifts, which translate into ripe fruits and fresh acidity.
Just 15 miles from the Pacific Ocean, Leyda Valley is Chile’s coolest-climate wine region—a narrow, fog-kissed valley producing some of the country’s most vibrant Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir, and Syrah. The whites are often high-acid, razor-sharp, with a hint of salinity. The Pinot Noirs resemble the combination of Burgundy and Oregon, with red cherry, wild herbs and forest floor.
