Château Cheval Blanc is one of the most prestigious wine estates in the world, located in Saint-Émilion, Bordeaux, and classified as Premier Grand Cru Classé "A"—the highest ranking in the appellation. The name "Cheval Blanc" (White Horse) may derive from a white horse that once grazed on the land or from the royal coat of arms of the Ducasse family. Unlike most Saint-Émilion estates (clay-limestone), Cheval Blanc has gravel, sand, and clay soils, similar to Pomerol. Fermented in custom-designed concrete vats, the wines are aged for 16–18 months in 100% new French oak barrels.
