The 2019 Côtes du Rhône 'Les Vergers' is a pure Syrah cuvée sourced from the plateau above Ampuis, offering a charming expression of Northern Rhône terroir. While initially straightforward on the nose with vibrant cherry aromas, the wine reveals its pedigree on the palate - silky, medium-bodied, and framed by ripe, dusty tannins that promise 4-5 years of enjoyable evolution. This bottling comes from the renowned Clusel-Roch domaine, a 3.5-hectare estate in Verenay (Côte-Rôtie's northernmost village) that has been organic since 1990. The Clusel family, now in its third generation with Guillaume joining parents Gilbert and Brigit, maintains an exceptional legacy of old Serine-clone Syrah vines planted in 1935 ('Les Grandes-Places'), with all subsequent plantings done via massale selection from these historic vines. Their commitment to low yields and traditional practices results in wines of remarkable purity that showcase why this family were pioneers of quality in the region.
