This wine comes from the prized Les Combottes lieu-dit in Gevrey-Chambertin, where a 5-6% slope and perfect east-facing exposure (271-282m altitude) create optimal ripening conditions. This wine benefits from the site's diverse soils – 40-50cm reddish-brown earth with limestone fragments in the east transitioning to fine angular limestone gravel in the west – which impart distinctive minerality and structure. This wine's unique foundation in ocher-colored crinoidal limestone (rich in marine fossils) and upper-slope Comblanchien limestone scree contributes to its renowned complexity, offering both power and elegance. The combination of excellent drainage and ideal sun exposure results in a wine that beautifully expresses Gevrey-Chambertin's signature intensity with Les Combottes' characteristic finesse.
