Gérard Bertrand
From Rugby Champion to
King of Languedoc
Before becoming a winemaker, Bertrand was a professional rugby player for Stade Toulousain, even winning the French championship in 1987. He took over the family estate, Domaine de Villemajou, in 1987 after the sudden death of his father. He juggled his rugby career with winemaking for several years before committing to wine full-time in the 1990s. He is a passionate advocate for biodynamic farming; with 16 properties and over 1,200 hectares of vines, he is now the 2nd largest producer of biodynamic wines in the world
