Paringa Estate

Paringa Estate

Founded by Lindsay McCall, a former geography teacher turned winemaker, Paringa Estate is one of the Mornington Peninsula’s most celebrated wineries. Lindsay’s journey began in 1983 with a life-changing sip of a 1980 Seville Estate Shiraz, inspiring him to plant his own vineyard in 1985. Despite early challenges, Paringa Estate has become a benchmark for excellence in Australian wine and cuisine.

A Visionary Beginning

Lindsay’s first vineyard was a 10-acre orchard transformed into a thriving vineyard. Defying advice, he planted Shiraz in the warmest spot, pioneering the region’s potential for this varietal. His first vintage in 1987 was modest, but by 1988, Paringa Estate released its first commercial wines, marking the start of a remarkable journey.

Award-Winning Wines

Paringa Estate’s wines quickly gained acclaim, with Lindsay’s 1990 Shiraz winning gold at the Yarra Valley Wine Show. In 2007, Paringa was named “Best Winery in Australia” by James Halliday, solidifying its reputation for crafting exceptional cool-climate wines, including Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Shiraz.

A Culinary Destination

In 1999, Lindsay opened Paringa Restaurant, offering a dining experience that complements the estate’s wines. The restaurant, awarded a Chef’s Hat in The Age Good Food Guide annually since 2013, celebrates locally sourced, seasonal produce. Dishes feature Gippsland beef, Western Plains pork, and foraged ingredients like wild mushrooms and sea herbs.

A Legacy of Innovation

Recent renovations have enhanced the estate’s modern aesthetic, with large windows offering views into the winery. Paringa Estate remains a testament to Lindsay’s vision, perseverance, and passion for the Mornington Peninsula.
